Local disc jockey Robert “Bobby C” Campbell is soliciting monetary donations for his seventh annual Thanksgiving dinner fundraiser, with more haste this year so as to get in all the orders on time.

“I need 125 turkeys,” Campbell said last week.

It costs $65 to sponsor a family in need and people can sponsor as many families as they want. Checks should be made out to Bobby Campbell at 303 Fairway Ave., Turners Falls, MA 01376. Write “Thanksgiving Fundraiser 2022” in the memo line.

Campbell explained he is working with local supermarkets and needs all donations by Oct. 11 so he can place the orders on Oct. 13. The avian influenza is skyrocketing the price of turkey, and Campbell said the birds will likely cost at least $2 per pound this year. Campbell said this will result in many families buying a smaller turkey or not purchasing one at all.

“It’s just crazy,” he said. “And who knows what the delivery situation is.”

Each family who benefits from Campbell’s fundraiser receives turkey, gravy, stuffing mix, potatoes, carrots, butternut squash, rolls, cranberry sauce and apple pie. According to Campbell, the fundraiser fed 2,713 people last year. The fundraiser started by helping 50 people during its first year.

“It’s a true seven-year itch,” Campbell said. “I’ve been stressed out about this thing since August, but we’re off to a good start.”

Campbell works with area programs such as Stone Soup Cafe, Living Waters Assembly of God, Greenfield’s Salvation Army, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County, The United Arc and Montague Catholic Social Ministries.
