The 41st Mug Race blasted off from the Montague Common on a warm morning. Many runners returned to best their times, including Dan Smith from Shelburne who shaved over a minute off his winning time from last year. It was great to have local families show up to support both races.
Ali Seymour became our first, third generation of runners to cross the finish line. Her grandfather and parents have always been on the start line. Ali also came dressed to race in her pearl necklace.
As director I must thank our very supportive sponsors: Raus Towing, Montague Mill, Falls Farm, Steadfast Wealth Management, Village Store, Turn Lawn Care, Renaissance Builders, Greenfield Savings Bank, Moreitty Landscape, McCarthy Funeral Home, Mount Grace Land Trust and Barstow Bakery. Without their support the race could not continue.
Secondly, a huge thanks to all the volunteers who worked endlessly to ensure all the runners’ needs were met. This includes the MCFD who cover road safety.
Scott Fallon paid tribute to his sister, Tracy Turn, who loved to run the hills of Montague. Scott awarded the Spirit of Tracy to two deserving runners and will make this an annual award.
And our dear friends of Dave Kayner also continued his tradition by providing fiddle music at the finish line. Another great group of local residents that add to the flavor of the race.
Thanks again for coming out and supporting this community race.
