TURNERS FALLS — A contractor was airlifted to a trauma center over the weekend after sustaining serious injuries when he fell off the Turners Falls Municipal Airport hangar he was working on.

According to Kyle Cogswell, acting deputy chief of the Turners Falls Fire Department, firefighters were called to the airport at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday. The contractor received initial care from firefighters and EMTs, who determined the patient needed additional treatment at a trauma center. An AMR ambulance also responded.

Cogswell said his crew requested LifeFlight, and “they were able to land in very close proximity … to the hangar in question.” He was unsure which trauma center the patient was flown to.

Cogswell said on Monday he did not have an update on the man’s condition.
