WHATELY — The town has issued an outdoor water ban, which began on Aug. 14, due to a pump failure.
A pump failure with the town’s water system has left water levels “extremely low,” according to a post on the town’s Facebook page. All outdoor water uses are banned. Residents are asked to limit their indoor use of water, too.

DEERFIELD — As the town prepares for its 350th anniversary celebration in 2023, residents are urged to save the date for a jubilee event at Deerfield Academy.
Folks are invited to both ring in the new year and celebrate 350 years of Deerfield from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Deerfield Academy’s Dining Commons on Dec. 31. Tickets will go on sale for the informal “black and white attire” event in the fall, as the town kicks off a year of celebrations.
To help run the event, the Friends of Deerfield are looking for volunteers. Those who are interested should visit friendsofdeerfield.org.
DEERFIELD — The Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association (PVMA) will hold a chamber music concert on Sunday, Aug. 21.
The concert will be held at Memorial Hall Museum’s newly renovated Music Room at 3 p.m. The Deerfield Trio of Mark Fraser on cello, Anthony Berner on violin and Yu-Mei Wei on piano will perform.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the door.
CONWAY — Odin Moore, a recent graduate of the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School and a resident of Conway, was inducted into the U.S. Naval Academy’s Class of 2026.
Approximately 1,200 candidates are selected each year for the academy’s freshman class. For the class of 2026, the academy received more than 16,000 applications.
SUNDERLAND — Sophia Dorshow of Sunderland, who is enrolled in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, was named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester.
To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must complete 12 or more credits while attaining at least a 3.66 grade point average.
DEERFIELD — The Old Deerfield Painting Group will celebrate painting together again with an exhibit at the Deerfield Community Center located at 16 Memorial St.
The exhibit, which carries the theme “Pathways,” will be open from Aug. 21 to Aug. 28, from noon to 5 p.m. A reception to meet the artists will be held Sunday, Aug. 21, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.
