I read in Monday’s paper about the Shelburne Zoning Board of Appeals virtual meeting held Thursday July 28. As a neighbor, I got a letter/legal notice about the meeting with the Zoom meeting information. However, after several attempts to join the meeting and calling the phone number provided, I gave up. It almost seemed (I really hesitate to say this out loud) that the people who were against the S&N request for a special permit were the only ones on the Zoom meeting. I wasn’t “there,” so I can’t be sure.
I suggest that the next meeting be held on site at S&N Logging or some other open area where all parties can ask questions and have their say. Not everyone has the technological wherewithal to participate via internet.
As for the operation itself, S&N Logging is an agricultural business. This town has fewer businesses, never mind agricultural business every year. S&N Logging should be encouraged to contribute to the town’s economic growth, such as it is.
I hope that S&N Logging follows the proper protocols and that the Zoning Board of Appeals takes a fair and evenhanded approach to the matter. Also, I hope that those of us who weren’t at the initial meeting can voice our concerns and ask questions.
