GREENFIELD — In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the case that recognized a constitutional right to abortion, Hawks & Reed Performing Arts Center is hosting an event Friday that aims to raise money for a charity supporting abortion rights, while also bringing together the music community.

“With the overturning of Roe. v Wade … we wanted to do our part, and do whatever we can to make a difference,” said Jackson Williams of Hawks & Reed at 289 Main St. “I think there are a lot of people in our community who want to feel like they’re doing something to make some kind of difference.”

The merchandise market and community social, which will offer area musicians a chance to set up booths to sell their merchandise and promote their work, will take place Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. on Court Square. Proceeds from a raffle at the event will support the Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts, a nonprofit that is “dedicated to overcoming barriers to abortion access,” according to its website. Williams said he’d like to raise at least $1,000 for the cause.

“We’re trying to get as many bands and musicians together to act as vendors selling their merch,” Williams said, noting many groups have also contributed items to the raffle. “We’re still accepting vendor applications for people who want to be involved.”

The event will include a disc jockey followed by live music, featuring a performance by the Pioneer Valley Symphony at 7:30 p.m.

Williams added that the event is happening in conjunction with the Greenfield Arts Walk, which takes place the same evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
