The West County Cider Beacon Clay Classic will begin on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Beacon Field Clay Courts.
The event is a men’s singles tennis tournament, and the cost is free for Greenfield Tennis Association members and $10 for non-members. Registration ends on Sunday.
All matches are best two-out-of-three, with a tie break. The tournament is single elimination draw. Play must begin at 5:30 each day and players must be available to play all week or until draw is completed. Tennis balls will be provided and all proceeds benefit the Greenfield Clay Courts.
Gift certificates provided by West County Cider will be awarded to the semifinalist and finalists. For more information or to register, contact Tim Prevost at 413-773-8984.
F.C. Summer League
In a battle of the unbeaten, Hannah Gilbert tossed seven innings and struck out 15 while adding a pair of hits and RBIs at the plate to propel the Menace past the Wolfpack, 11-7, on Tuesday in an FCL Summer Softball contest at Murphy Park.
Skyler Steele cracked four hits, two doubles, and brought in three runs, Anna Bucala blasted a double and two singles, Kylee Gamache knocked a pair of hits and brought in a run, Cordelia Guerin had an RBI double and Lindsey Taylor tallied an RBI single in the victory.
Ryanne Dubay and Reagan Dubay both tallied a pair of hits, Josie Dubay had a two-RBI double and Alison George hit safely for the Wolfpack. Riley Giard struck out eight in four innings work in the loss.
■ Also at Murphy Park on Tuesday, the Magic produced 18 hits to earn a 14-7 win over the Flyers.
Mackensie Goncalves recorded four hits and three RBIs, Madeline Hayes knocked three hits, Kristen Sevoian had a pair of hits and RBIs and Meghan Collins tallied an RBI and Gloria McDonald struck out 10 in the win.
Ashley Bobala had a three RBI triple, Maddie Lamoire had an RBI single and Jordyn Placzek and Breanna Kempf hit safely for the Flyers.
In action on Wednesday, Havoc edged Menace, 17-12, with Cassie Dion striking out 15 in the circle across all seven innings. Natalie Elson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple in the victory, while Brooke Rochon also had two hits and scored twice.
The Menace were led by Kylee Gamache, who was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Hannah Gilbert had a perfect 4-for-4 night with two RBIs, and Anna Bucala racked up eight punchouts in seven innings in the circle.
PVSSL
Fernando Saravia had two goals and an assist while Quinn McNutt found the back of the net twice in Frontier’s 6-2 in over Granby on Tuesday in a Pioneer Valley Summer Soccer League game.
Chanmin Son scored a goal and dished an assist, Aiden Valderrama had a goal and Brady Burch finished with an assist for the Redhawks. Shane Prusak made seven saves in goal while Matt Sicard and Ben Cachiguango played well on defense.
DRIVE League
Matt Petro dropped 31 points and Parker Hickey added 14 points in Team Markol’s 90-80 win over No Name on Tuesday in a men’s league contest in the DRIVE League at Greenfield High School.
Chris Brown had 31 points in the defeat.
In boys varsity action at GHS on Tuesday, Griffin Smiarowski scored 23 points and Riley Intrator tacked on 17 points to lift Hatfield past Hadley, 69-64. James Fitzgibbons totalled 24 points and Teddy Cyr had 17 points for Hadley.
The second boys varsity game of the night saw Andrew Garappolo score six points to lead Frontier past Franklin Tech, 36-34. Ty Sadoski had 20 points for the Eagles.
Three boys JV games took place at Stoneleigh Burnham on Tuesday. To open the night, Morgan Softic and Marshall Ames each scored 15 points in Orange’s 74-59 triumph over Hinsdale. Jon Winter scored 16 points and Trace Tetrault had 13 points in the loss.
Oliver Brown scored 16 points and Luke Howard finished with 12 points as Frontier rolled to a 52-16 win over Pioneer in the second JV game on Tuesday. Will Glazier finished with five points for the Panthers.
To close out the night, Grayson Thomas scored 15 points and Krish Patel added 13 points in Greenfield’s 43-30 win over Athol. Alex Oullette led the Bears with 12 points.
PV Women’s
Taylor Boutwell had a home run and four RBIs while Shari Dexteraze-McCarthy and Dee Calvert each knocked three hits and brought in four runs to lead Ashfield to a 22-10 win over Shelburne Falls on Tuesday in a Pioneer Valley Women’s Softball contest in Buckland.
Shayla Demers hit a home run, Amanda Chapin knocked an RBI triple and Teagan Valeski had a two-RBI double in the defeat.
K of C League
Nick Worthley’s plus-6 point quota led the way at Wednesday’s Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club.
Ed Sargent was second at plus-5, followed by Fran Togneri and Bill Chalmers who tied for third at plus-4. Joe Kapitulik is the current league leader at plus-12.
Closest to pin winners on Wednesday were Ryan Hickey (No. 7, 3-3) and Darren Lenois (No. 9, 14-9), and Hickey won a skin.
