Pickleball courts open in Conway

CONWAY — The town’s pickleball court is now open for residents to use with equipment to borrow, including a net, paddles and balls.

The court is available any time it’s not in use and residents may email ConwayMApickleball@gmail.com to request the combination to the equipment bench. Feedback and suggestions are also welcome at the same email.

There are two free-play sessions each week on Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon where participants can learn how to play. To participate in free play time, visit the town website and sign up by clicking on the “Pickleball Comes to Conway!” news item.

Dedicated Men of Zion to perform

WHATELY — Watermelon Wednesdays continues on July 27 at Whately Town Hall with the Dedicated Men of Zion taking the stage at 7 p.m.

The quartet incorporates gospel, soul and blues into tight, a capella harmonies. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at watermelonwednesdays.com.

Sunderland resident earns academic excellence award, Dean’s List honors

SUNDERLAND — Leah Pion of Sunderland graduated from Assumption College in Worcester with a bachelor’s degree in economics and actuarial science, along a minor in data analytics. She also earned spring semester Dean’s List honors and received the Professor James McCarthy Scholarship at the spring Honors Convocation.

“Assumption is proud of those students who earned recognition at the university’s annual Honors Convocation, which recognizes students for academic excellence and who embody the Assumption mission,” said Greg Weiner, interim president of Assumption University. “These students, including Leah, have demonstrated a commitment to the relentless pursuit of Catholic liberal education, serving as leaders for their classmates, and embracing the opportunities provided by Assumption to form individuals prepared to live lives of meaning.”

Concert series hosting Teresa Healy, Tom Juravich

LEVERETT — Mount Toby Concerts at 194 Long Plain Road (Route 63) will host folk songwriters Teresa Healy and Tom Juravich on Saturday, July 30, at 4 p.m.

Healy and Juravich will perform duets about work, life, struggle and love. The concert will be held outdoors and attendees must be vaccinated against COVID-19. Masks are optional and bringing a comfortable chair is encouraged.

The suggested donation is $20 to $30 and tickets can be reserved by emailing diacrowe@yahoo.com.
