The Franklin County Hoop Clinic is returning this summer, running from July 18-22 and July 25-29 at Greenfield High School.

 The clinic is open for boys and girls ages 6-14, running from 8:45 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost is $150 per participant and will be run by Greenfield High School girls basketball coach John Hickey and Green Wave boys coach Angelo Thomas, who together have over 40 years of coaching experience.

This is the 24th year the clinic is taking place, with the main purpose to provide each player the tools necessary to elevate their game as well as learning the concept of hard work, dedication and what it takes to be successful both on the court and in life.

Kells Junior Two-Ball

Amir Ardolino and Ali Awkal finished with the low gross of 69 in the Spieth Flight in the Kells Junior Two-Ball Tournament at the Country Club of Greenfield on Wednesday. 

The pairing of Henry Poissant and Doug Mulligan took second with a 71 while Alex Gochinski and Brayden Thayer came in third with a 73. Tyler McDonald and Ben Anderson took fourth (76) followed by Brady Perkins and Henry Audette in fifth (79), Dylan Archer and Matt Lavoine in sixth (82) and Nate Blanchard and Ryan Blanchard in seventh (83). 

In the Thomas Flight, Adam Howe and Sam Pieczynski came in first with the low gross of 68. Brady Booska and Gabe Mota took second (73), Daniel O’Connor and Brayden Fenessey took third (78), Aubyn Phillips and Ben Gaudette took fourth (80), Brendan Phillips and Austin Dono earned fifth (99) and Nate Dono and Brady Miller finished in sixth (101). 

Luke Heroux and Tucker Almeida earned a first place finish in the Fowler Flight, recording the low gross of 36. Connor Howe and Tyler Phillips took second (40), Ellie Mazzafero and Maeve Donah took third (43) and Preston Charboneau and Mason Gilbert came in fourth (58).

Thomas Women’s League

Sally Malloy took home top honors at the Thomas Memorial Women’s League on Wednesday, firing a 40 to snag low gross honors in Turners Falls.

MaryEllen Fydenkevez nabbed the low net with a 26, while Bonnie Rae was closest to the pin on No. 7 (12 feet, 2½ inches). 

K of C League

Chris Ray paced the field at Wednesday’s Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial, posting a plus-9 point quota. Joey Niedbala was right behind with a plus-8 quota.

Joe Kapitulik leads the league at plus-10 overall, followed by Bob Wondoloski and Bruce Merriam at plus-9 each. Closest to the pin winners were Bill Chalmers (No. 7, 4-9) and Rick Greene (No. 9, 11-3). Skins were won by Bob Walker, Rod Herzig, Steve Call, Bill Chalmers and Bob Bourbeau.

Youth softball

F.C. Summer League

Hannah Gilbert was indeed a menace at the plate Wednesday night, clubbing two home runs and finishing with a whopping nine RBIs to power the Menace to a 20-11 win over the Defenders in a Franklin County Summer League contest at Murphy Park.

Gilbert finished the night 4-for-6 with a double and a triple to go with the two homers. The Menace led 11-1 after two innings. Lindsey Taylor added three hits while Cordelia Guerin drove in a pair of runs for the victors. Anna Bucala tossed four innings of relief in the circle to snag the win, striking out five. Gilbert started and threw three frames with eight strikeouts.

The Defenders were led by Amelia Pierce’s 3-for-4 night at the dish with two RBIs and three runs scored. Alivia Patch also had two hits and two RBIs while Shelby O’Leary tripled and scored twice.

Basketball

DRIVE League

Jalen Sanders scored 13 points and Malachi Roman added eight points to lead Toyota of Greenfield to a 74-59 win over TBT on Tuesday in a men’s league contest of the DRIVE League at Greenfield High School. 

Matt Jenks tallied 17 points and Brett Robinson added 13 points in the loss. 

• In boys varsity action at GHS on Monday, Max Millette dropped 18 points to lift Frontier to a 73-50 win over Turners. Branden Truesdell recorded 20 points and Logan Addison put in 10 points for the Thunder. 

The second varsity game of the night saw Hopkins beat Franklin Tech, 48-30, behind 17 points from Ted Cyr and 12 points from Owen Earle. Ty Sadoski led the Eagles with 13 points in the defeat. 

• In boys JV action at Stoneleigh Burnham on Tuesday, Connor Dixon scored 19 points and Trace Tetrault added 10 points in Hinsdale’s 45-33 win over Greenfield. 

Grayson Thomas scored 10 points while David Jung had eight points in the loss. 

In the second JV game on Tuesday, Orange defeated Frontier, 49-25, behind 19 points from Morgan Softic. Alex Ellis had seven points in the loss. 

To close out the night, Alex Oullette finished with 18 points in Athol’s 39-28 win over Pioneer. Jerad Ghoulston scored 11 points for the Panthers.
