ORANGE — A skydiver who had trouble with his parachute suffered non-life-threatening injuries following a hard landing atop the Seaman Paper warehouse in the industrial park on Sunday.
According to a statement from the Orange Fire Department, the incident occurred just before 7 p.m., when the skydiver’s main and reserve chutes became entangled.
Emergency crews from the Orange Fire Department responded to the scene, where the victim, identified only as an adult male, was conscious and alert. Employees of Jumptown Skydiving tended to the man as EMTs were en route.
While the individual’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, the nature of his injuries and “extended on-scene and extrication time” prompted officials to call for a LifeFlight helicopter, according to the Fire Department’s statement. While Orange EMTs tended to the man’s injuries, staff from Jumptown removed the harness and equipment from the patient.
The helicopter landed at Orange Municipal Airport and, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the injured skydiver was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
The name, condition and nature of the man’s injuries have not been released. When reached Monday afternoon, Orange Fire Chief James Young said he did not have any additional information.
