TURNERS FALLS — Two drivers were transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield after a head-on collision along the bend between L Street, High Street and Montague Street Wednesday morning.

According to Montague Police Officer James Ruddock, emergency responders received the call at 10:40 a.m. Upon preliminary investigation, Ruddock said, neither of the involved drivers, both single occupants and female, sustained major injuries. While both were taken to Baystate Franklin, they were transported “mainly just to be evaluated,” according to Police Officer Michael Sevene.

“Basically, it looked like a head-on collision,” Ruddock said. “It’s still under investigation and we don’t really know what happened, but no one was seriously injured.”

One vehicle, a gray Toyota RAV4, had its airbags deployed. The other, a gray Toyota Corolla, did not have its airbags deployed, but suffered more severe damage to its front, including a lost headlight. The vehicles were towed by Rau’s Sunoco Service.

Responding agencies included the Turners Falls Police and Fire departments, while ambulances from Turners Falls Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) each transported one of the two drivers.
