DEERFIELD — A driver was taken to the hospital Thursday after slamming into an unoccupied State Police cruiser strategically positioned to protect street sweepers in the northbound lane of Interstate 91.

According to a Facebook post from the State Police Association of Massachusetts, the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the parked cruiser as a trooper stood watch. The trooper was uninjured.

There are no details on any charges the driver may face, but multiple witnesses reported seeing the driver talking on a cellphone, according to the post.

Efforts to reach State Police spokesperson David Procopio for more information were unsuccessful by press time on Thursday.
