HAWLEY — Selectboard Chair Hussain Hamdan was re-elected to his seat in the only contested race in Monday’s election.
According to Administrative Assistant Tinky Weisblat, 132 residents voted in the election, which is 52% of the town’s registered voters.
Hamdan, who has served six years on Hawley’s Selectboard, was re-elected to his position with 70 votes, while challenger Ashley Harrison garnered 58 votes. A firefighter and EMT in Hawley, Hamdan said he is “very grateful” for the residents who performed their civic duty and participated in the election.
Hamdan said Hawley’s biggest challenge is that it is a “small town with a limited tax base and lots of costs,” and he is prepared to help the town continue navigating these challenges.
“I think we are going to do the best we can to manage these challenges,” Hamdan said. “And I look forward to working creatively with other members of the board to be as efficient and as effective as possible.”
