I am supporting Tim Hilchey for Selectboard in Deerfield. Since Tim and his wife, Pat, sold the family house in Turners and made Deerfield their home, he has been pitching in wherever and whenever a need arises. In 2015, he joined neighbors in expanding the Deerfield Elementary School playground. Soon after, he was appointed to his first town board. Tim is the chairman of both the Conservation Commission and the Community Preservation Committee, but if elected to the Selectboard he would step down so others could serve. He is treasurer of Friends of Deerfield, a nonprofit fundraising committee raising money for the town’s 350th celebration. As a member of the Frontier EDS team and the state’s Medical Reserve Corp, he has volunteered at flu and Covid-19 vaccine clinics across Franklin County. Tim understands that Deerfield residents are concerned about rising costs like high sewer bills. That’s why he wants to hold the line on real estate taxes by encouraging thoughtful economic development to increase the tax base. He will work hard to bring more federal tax dollars back to Deerfield to pay for sidewalk repairs, failing culverts, and other critical infrastructure. Tim supports: fighting flooding along the Bloody Brook; creating a permanent home for senior citizens; preparing the town for climate change; and fostering transparent policies and respectful meetings. As a retired financial news journalist, Tim has the free time to work for Deerfield. His career as a reporter taught him how to ask tough questions and unravel complicated issues. It is for all these reasons, I am voting Monday May 2 for Tim Hilchey for Deerfield Selectboard. If you are a Deerfield resident, I hope you will too.
