The Athol softball team made quick work of Murdock on Tuesday. 

The Bears scored 10 runs in the first inning and tacked nine on in the fourth to come away with a 22-1 independent win over the visiting Blue Devils in five innings. 

Sadey Lehtomaki went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs for Athol (5-1). Jenna Bonenfant was 5-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, Lindsey LeBlanc had a pair of hits and RBIs, Jaylynn Chapalonis, Kennedy Vaillancourt, Alyssa Logan and Ally Robertson each had a hit and two RBIs and Emma Bacigalupo and Sadey D’Ambrosia each tallied a hit and an RBI in the victory. 

LeBlanc allowed one hit and struck out 12 on the hill for the Bears.

Post 81 Tryouts

Greenfield Post 81 American Legion will hold registration and tryouts on May 7, 14 and 15 at Vets Field in Greenfield. 

Tryouts are for both the Senior and Junior Legion teams, with Senior team tryouts beginning at 1 p.m. and the Junior team tryouts taking place at 3 p.m. 

The Senior team is open to players who will be 19-and-under by Dec. 31, 2022, and the Junior team is open to those 17-and-under by Dec. 31, 2022. Players from all Franklin County schools are eligible to come out for the teams. Those who previously played on a Post 81 team must still attend the tryout. Players are encouraged to attend as many tryouts as possible.

F.C. Babe Ruth signups 

Franklin County Babe Ruth baseball will hold registrations at the Greenfield Elks Club tonight (Wednesday, April 20) from 5:30-7 p.m.

Additional registration nights will be held April 23 and 30 from 9:30-noon, and April 25 from 5:30-7 p.m., also at the Elks.

The league is open to all Franklin County residents age 13, 14 and 15 as well as 12 year olds with full size 90-foot diamond experience. Any questions can be directed to Tina Crocker at 413-896-8576 or Joe Mignault at 413-774-3876.

Montague Adult Softball

The Montague Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for new teams interested in joining its co-ed adult softball league. 

The league is ASA sanctioned with umpired. Team registration is $650, with the season running from May until August with games on Monday and Thursday evenings.
