Bernardston student makes Simmons Dean’s List

BERNARDSTON — Skyler Cohen of Bernardston was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Simmons University in Boston.

To qualify for Dean’s List status, undergraduate students must obtain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, based on 12 or more credit hours of work in classes using the letter grade system.

Northfield VFW holds remembrance ceremony

NORTHFIELD — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9874 held a remembrance ceremony at the veterans memorial next to Town Hall on Tuesday night.

“We honor all that served, their families, and we pay our deepest respect to those who did not return,” said Bob Henry, a member of VFW Post 9874. According to Henry, around 15 people attended.

Puzzle swap set for Saturday, April 2

NORTHFIELD — Free used puzzles will be available at Dickinson Memorial Library on Saturday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Attendees are advised to park in the back and enter through the side door of the library. Turn left to find the Community Room.

Participants are invited to take as many as puzzles as they want, and can keep them as long as they need. The puzzle swap is offered monthly.

Senior Center invites members to ‘spool around’

BERNARDSTON — Starting April 19, the Bernardston Senior Center will offer “Spooling Around” sessions on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants can engage in sewing, quilting, knitting or other activities that involve a needle and thread.

Senior Center offering two-part painting class

BERNARDSTON — Former Bernardston Senior Center Director Dianne Cornwell will lead two painting classes at the center on Tuesdays, April 19 and 26, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Each lesson involves painting a flower scene of the artist’s choice, a Senior Center newsletter explains. Participants will be provided with materials to use for the first class but are welcome to bring their own favorite brushes, palette and acrylic paints if they have them.

In the first lesson, participants will learn how to set up the palette, use a color wheel, choose and transfer a composition to the canvas, apply a wash and mix colors, the newsletter states. The second lesson will focus on brushes and brush stroke techniques.

The cost of the program is being covered by Senior Center donations, but there is a recommended donation of $5 each session. The class size is limited to eight. Advance registration is required by calling 413-648-5413.

Recycling, composting subject of April 21 talk

BERNARDSTON — Amy Donovan, program director with the Franklin County Solid Waste Management District, will outline local recycling guidelines and composting programs during a presentation at the Bernardston Senior Center on Thursday, April 21, from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
