Shutesbury Police delivering sand to seniors

SHUTESBURY — The Police Department has launched a program to deliver buckets of sand to the town’s seniors during icy winter conditions.

According to the Shutesbury town website, if you are a Shutesbury resident and a senior (or someone with a disability or simply someone in need), call the Police Department at 413-259-1279 and leave a message with your name and phone number while also referencing the “Sand for Seniors program.” An officer will return your call, get your information and deliver the sand to your doorstep.

Forty buckets to hold the sand have been donated by The Home Depot in Hadley. The website explains that, at the end of the season, the Police Department will collect the buckets and store them to be used again next winter.
