I read with interest nurse Terri Kerner’s March 11 piece about the possible closing of local mental health units by Baystate Health. She’s right of course in suggesting that Baystate is contemplating “dumping” local mental health units for something more profitable in the field of preventive medicine. Baystate has been contemplating doing so for some time and the new facility for mental health treatment in Holyoke is the perfect excuse.

I hope the powers that be at Baystate will listen to their own healthcare professionals, like nurse Terri Kerner, and not the bean counters in accounting.
