Chief’s contract
extended as towns consider shared services
SHELBURNE — The Selectboard has extended Police Chief Greg Bardwell’s contract for another three years and also authorized him to enter into negotiations with Buckland to provide administrative service up to five hours per week in the coming year.
The two towns are exploring a shared police services agreement. Shelburne and Buckland have applied for a $200,000 Efficiency and Regionalization grant through the Massachusetts Division of Local Services to support the process and engage voters of both towns in the dialogue.
SHELBURNE — Dog owners are advised to renew their dog licenses with Town Clerk Joe Judd by March 31 to avoid a $25 late fee.
All dogs older than 6 months must be licensed with the Town Clerk’s Office within 30 days of ownership. Prior to issuing the license, proof of current rabies vaccination is required.
Dog licenses may be obtained in person at the Town Clerk’s Office or by mail with a stamped self-addressed return envelope. With questions, contact Judd at 413-625-0300, ext. 3 or townclerk@townofshelburnema.gov.
Buckland seeks
Selectboard
candidate
BUCKLAND — Nomination papers are now available to run in the May 3 town election, and must be returned, with signatures from voters registered in Buckland, to Town Clerk Karen Blom by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15.
There are several open seats up for election. According to a notice from Blom, a crucial position is a three-year term for Selectboard for which no nomination papers have been taken out as of March 2.
The three-member Selectboard is in charge of setting town policy, reviewing finances, running Town Meetings and answering general resident requests. If no one runs for this office, a special election will need to be held later in the year.
“Such a special election will cost extra money (and) use precious resources,” Blom’s notice reads, also noting that special elections often don’t have a large voter turnout.
For more information, contact Blom at 413-625-6330, ext. 4 or twnclerk@town.buckland.ma.us.
