Shane Prusak racked up a four-point night, and host Greenfield scored two goals in all three periods en route to a 6-3 victory over Easthampton in a Wright Division hockey game Saturday night at Collins-Moylan Arena.
Prusak buried a pair of goals and assisted on two others for the Green Wave, which improved to 5-3 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in the league. Greenfield capped the season sweep over the Eagles, as they also won the road game in Easthampton on Dec. 15 (4-2 victory).
Greenfield led 2-1 after one period and made it a 4-1 game after two frames thanks to another two-goal middle stanza.
Matt Garvin, Sammy Knight, Matt Lavoine and Trevor K uchieski all added markers in the victory. Prusak, Knight and Jake Croteau each finished with two assists, while single helpers were credited to Kevin Baumann, MJ Paulin and Eathon Bryant.
Gabe Growhowski, Zach Roy and Tyler Darling scored for Easthampton.
Greenfield goalie Josh Bordeaux recorded 19 saves to pick up the win between the pipes. Easthampton’s Paige Galpin stopped 33 of the 39 shots she faced.
Next up for Greenfield is a home game against Fay Division foe Agawam on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Brownies are 1-8 on the season but have played close games against a difficult schedule.
Frontier 63, Ware 21 — The visiting Redhawks built a 20-6 lead after one quarter and breezed past Ware, 63-21, in a Franklin County League North contest on Saturday in Ware.
Kylie Laford had the big outing offensively for Frontier (5-2, 3-0), as she poured in 25 points, including four 3-pointers. The Hawks led 35-10 at halftime.
Hailey Hutkoski went for double figures with 10 points in the victory, while Abigail Howard added eight points. Delaney Fifield tossed in six points while Cadince Wells-Robinson chipped in with five.
Next up, Frontier travels to Lenox on Tuesday.
Mohawk Trail’s William VanVleet and Franklin Tech’s Josh Brunelle had quite a weekend in the Berkshires.
VanVleet, a sophomore grappler, made his way through the 220-pound weight class bracket at the Taconic Invitational in Pittsfield on Saturday, capturing the individual title to power the Warriors to a 13th-place team finish.
Brunelle, a senior, was the winner in the 145-pound weight class.
Mohawk Trail tied for 13th with Sabis, amassing 46 points apiece. Franklin Tech was 12th as a team with 57 points. Host Taconic ran away with the top spot, registering 190 points thanks to wins at three weight classes.
In the championship match at 220, VanVleet scored a pin of Holyoke’s Richard Rodriguez in the second round.
In the title match at 145, Brunelle nabbed an 8-5 decision to get past Smith Vocational’s Forrest Mcsweeney.
Greater Lowell 48, Frontier 12 — Payton Sladeski and Javion Cabrera scored victories for the Redhawks on Saturday.
Sladeski was a winner at 120 pounds, scoring a first-round pin. Cabrera won at 285 thanks to a late second-round pin.
In its home opener, the Deerfield Academy boys hockey team picked up a 5-3 win over Trinity Pawling on Saturday.
The Big Green captured a 53-45 win over Exeter in girls basketball, while the boys hoop team fell to Salisbury, 58-44. The boys squash team knocked off Choate, 5-2, and also swept Salisbury, 7-0, while the girls squash team was a 6-1 winner over Choate.
In the pool, Exeter swept Deerfield with wins on the boys side (98-80) and girls side (100-82).
Greenfield Suburban
Grayson Thomas dropped in 15 points, and Greenfield handled South Hadley, 45-26, in a Suburban League grades 5 and 6 boys basketball game on Saturday.
Bodie Burke added 10 points in the win for Greenfield, which improved to 5-0 with the victory. Conner Bergeron tossed in eight points.
