This map of Franklin County and the North Quabbin region shows positive COVID-19 case counts and data for the two-week period beginning Dec. 19 and ending Jan. 1.
The line chart shows COVID-19 cases continuing to spike in the region as the case load to start 2022 is nearly four times higher than any other period in 2021, according to data from the state Department of Public Health.
These two weeks saw 876 residents diagnosed with the virus, with Greenfield registering a county high of 211 cases. Orange and Montague follow behind with 139 and 129 cases, respectively. In Worcester County, Athol saw a region-high 313 people diagnosed with COVID-19.
Five people died due to the virus in Franklin County over these two weeks, the highest number of deaths since April 6’s report showed six deaths.

■CIC Health at Greenfield Community College, 1 College Drive, Greenfield, MA 01301. Website: cic-health.com/stopthespread. Alternatively, call 877-280-2937 or email support@cic-health.com to make an appointment. Unscheduled visits are available, however registration is required on site. Testing instructions are available in English and Spanish. The earliest time slots, as of Monday afternoon, are on Friday, Jan. 14, between 2:35 and 2:55 p.m.
■Walgreens at 5 Pierce St., Greenfield, MA 01301. Appointments are needed. Those looking to sign up must do so either at walgreens.com or using the Walgreens app.
■Baystate’s testing center, 33 Riddell St., Greenfield, MA 01301. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Call 413-795-8378 to make an appointment. A physician’s referral is required.
