CONWAY — Bob Baker, Conway’s fire chief of 40 years, will share observations and stories from his years of service with the Fire Department at the Conway Historical Society Museum at 50 Main St. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
Baker’s observations will touch on how firefighting equipment has changed over time and how the department may operate in the future.
Masks are required and attendees should be vaccinated.
WHATELY — The Whately Public Library will be open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Sept. 7.
Sunderland native serves aboard USS Iwo Jima
SUNDERLAND — Chief Petty Officer Jamie Ball, a Sunderland native, is serving as an electronics technician aboard the USS Iwo Jima.
Ball is a 1997 Frontier Regional School graduate and joined the U.S. Navy in 2010. Electronics technicians are responsible for maintaining, repairing and calibrating electronic equipment including radar, communications and navigation equipment.
The USS Iwo Jima is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, which supports the use of helicopters, jets and conventional landing craft.
SOUTH DEERFIELD — Molly Kokoski of South Deerfield graduated summa cum laude and earned a bachelor’s degree in public health from Simmons University in Boston.
Mask mandate in effect in Conway
CONWAY — The Board of Health has issued a mask mandate for all indoor gatherings in town.
The Board of Health intends to revisit the mandate “regularly” as the COVID-19 public health situation is constantly evolving.
SOUTH DEERFIELD — Kyleigh Burns of South Deerfield was named to the Dean’s List at Simmons University in Boston for the spring semester.
To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must obtain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while taking at least 12 credit hours worth of classes.
SUNDERLAND — The Sunderland Public Library is hosting outdoor story time featuring stories, songs and crafts for children ages 3 to 5 for three Fridays in September.
The events will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 10, 17 and 24, in the library’s backyard. In the event of rain, story time will be canceled for the week.
