GREENFIELD — Bob Gilmore and Samantha Wood have been elected to the Greenfield Public Library Foundation’s board of directors.
According to a press release from Rachel Roberts, coordinator of the Greenfield Public Library Foundation, members of the board have had the opportunity to work with Wood as a volunteer member of the Community Campaign Committee. Wood is an artist, writer, grant writer and arts consultant, and for 18 years was a news editor at daily newspapers in Western Massachusetts. She also currently serves as a member of the Greenfield Public Library’s board of trustees.
“A public library is one of the greatest examples we have of civilization in action,” Wood said in the release. “It provides access to information and education, arts and inspiration, research resources, career development, a comfortable place to sit and read, and simply a place to bring your questions — with a full-time staff of librarians, available to everyone of all ages and economic status. … I am deeply grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to bring us to this exciting time looking forward to the new library, and I am grateful to be asked to serve such an effort.”
Greenfield Public Library Foundation board members have had the opportunity to work with Gilmore as a volunteer member of the Development Committee, the release continues. He is a principal at Gilmore & Farrell Insurance, where he and Tim Farrell are both the third generation in their families to be running a local family business.
“Greenfield needs a new library, and we need to think about our community and future generations,” Gilmore said in the release. “We can’t just sit on the sidelines. This is a way I can give back to my community.”
