Frontier’s Jack Vecellio continues to raise the bar for himself.
At the 2021 Flying Circus Summer Fiber-Blast Pole Vault Festival Meet in Warwick, New York, on Saturday, Vecellio improved on his personal best with a top leap of 16 feet, one inch. That height would have had him in fourth place at Nationals in Eugene, Oregon, the week before.
The jump also qualified him for the Millrose Games, which take place on Jan. 29 at The Armory in New York City.
Post 81 Legion
Following a 13-0 shutout of Agawam earlier in the afternoon, the Greenfield Post 81 Senior Legion squad picked up a 15-5 win over Ludlow on Sunday night in five innings at Vets Field.
The win moves Greenfield to an unbeaten 7-0 on the season.
Kyle Barnes got things started with a double in the first inning before a big second inning put Post 81 in full control. Max Edwards, Ben Martino and Jason Quinn each had RBI hits in the inning while Cullen Brown hit safely.
Jacob Quinn finished the night with a single, a double and two RBIs. Martino and Jason Quinn each had a pair of hits.
Shawn Davenport went all five innings, striking out five in the rain.
Next up is a huge Zone 1 road game against Northampton Tuesday night at 5:45 p.m. at Arcanum Field.
FC Tech Summer League
Abby Howard scored 10 points with Delaney Fifield chipping in seven points and Molly Gates adding six points to lead Frontier to a 23-21 win over Franklin Tech on Monday in the Franklin Tech Summer Basketball League.
Kendra Campbell led the Eagles with five points. Lea Chapman and Hannah Gilbert each scored four points, Kate Trudeau and Ari Britt both had three points and Trinity Doane added two points in the loss.
In the second game of the night, Mahar picked up its first win of the league with a 38-25 triumph over Greenfield.
Naveah Scribner led the Senators with 10 points. Emma Bacigalupo and Jenna Bonenfant each had nine points, Natalie Belloli had seven points, Kendrah Doane had two points and Olivia Patch knocked down a free throw in the win.
Azemina Cecunjanin dropped 13 points in the loss for the Green Wave. Josie Cloutier added six points, Tess Rancourt scored four points and Anna Bucala had two points.
DRIVE League
Eli Lombardi dropped 29 points and Adam Goldstein added 27 points to lead FCHC to an 84-62 win over VT Hoops in a DRIVE Men’s League game on Sunday at Stoneleigh Burnham.
Tom Manning led VT Hoops with 21 points.
Chris Brown’s 27 points combined with Rob Jones’ 11 points helped lead Team No Name to a 59-47 triumph over Bruso Computer Solutions. Joey Paoletti had 17 points in the loss.
In the third game of the night, Matt Petro scored 20 points and Dan Donohue had 13 points as Markol Strong beat Frontier Finest, 75-45.
Owen Morse had 16 points and Sean Richter had 13 points in the loss.
Brady Burch put four shots in the back of the net to lead Frontier to a 4-2 victory over Pope Francis in a PVSSL contest in Whately on Monday.
Huzaifa Kian assisted two of Burch’s goals while Payton Sladeski and Ngawang Deter both picked up an assist in the win. Niko Lorantos stopped six shots in goal for Frontier.
The Packard Heights Association will hold a mini-triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 9 at 1 p.m.
The race begins at the main beach at Packards Pond in Orange. After checking in at the beach, participants will swim .2 miles, bicycle two laps around the lake which amounts to 4.2 miles and run one lap around the 2.1 mile lake.
Teams of one-to-three members can enter, but the number of teams is limited. The entry fee is $30 with the net proceeds going to preserve Packard Heights. The race will be held in rain or shine.
Awards will be given to the top three positions in the following categories: individuals (male and female), female team, male team, mixed team and family team. There will also be an award for the best time in each event, with t-shirts given to all pre-registered entrants. There will be a mini mini-triathlon for children of racers or assoc iation members following the main race.
