Shelburne, Buckland to discuss economic recovery

The towns of Buckland and Shelburne, along with the Greater Shelburne Falls Area Business Association (GSFABA), are holding a meeting on Wednesday, June 16, to create a plan to help the village of Shelburne Falls recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two towns and the business association were selected by the state Department of Housing and Community Development to participate in the new Rapid Recovery Plan Program, according to a press release from Jessica Atwood, economic development program manager with the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG). The purpose of the program is to revitalize downtowns and village centers by creating plans that respond to the effects of COVID-19 on local businesses and prioritize projects that support economic recovery.

The June 16 meeting will be held both in person in the second floor meeting room at the Buckland Town Hall, and via Zoom, starting at 6 p.m. There will be a review of data collected and a discussion of potential projects to include in the plan, the release explains. Such projects could include new marketing efforts, more space for outdoor dining and streetscape improvements.
