HADLEY — A man missing from Sunderland since March has been identified as the man found by a kayaker May 26 in the Connecticut River, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

Geoffrey R. “Randy” Arthur, 67, was reported missing March 29, said spokesperson Laurie Loisel. He was the subject of extensive searches in the days after his disappearance, with Sunderland police officers and firefighters searching the woods along Route 47 and the adjacent portion of the Connecticut River, assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing.

A woman boating on the Connecticut River discovered Arthur’s body floating in the water off River Road around noon on May 26. Arthur’s body was the second found in the river in May.

Earlier, Wasique Hasan, 21, a University of Massachusetts student from Easthampton, reported missing Dec. 30, was identified after his body was found near Rainbow Beach in Northampton.

The cause of death in both cases remains under investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
