The Greenfield girls softball team did its damage early Tuesday night against Frontier.
The Green Wave scored a run in the first, added three in the second and then exploded for six runs in the third, all while not surrendering a run themselves to pull away with an 11-3 Franklin County League win at Vets Field.
Gianna Conte went the distance in the circle, picking up the win after striking out nine Redhawks.
“Gianna was in command of her pitches,” Green Wave coach John Hickey said. “She moved it around and pitched well. As a team we hit the ball hard. We had a huge third inning that really got us going.”
Kelsey Richardson and Rachel Dodge each recorded three hits in the win, one of Richardson’s hits a double, and Dodge drove in a run. Ainslee Flynn and Kaitlin Lavoine each doubled and drove in two runs in the win while Katie Haselton and Brielle Widelo both drove in runs for Greenfield.
Olivia Deane and Makayla Santos each had two hits for Frontier, with Savannah Upton pitching five innings and recording a strikeout.
FC Tech 20, Westfield Tech 7 — The visiting Eagles stormed out to a 15-0 lead and breezed to a 20-7 five-inning Tri-County League North victory at Whitney Park in Westfield on Tuesday.
Freshman Lilly Ross was 4-for-5 with two RBIs to pace Franklin Tech (5-2, 4-0), which led 8-0 in the fourth before scoring seven runs in the inning. Kaitlin Trudeau was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Mackenzie Martel had a triple and scored four runs. Faith Smith drove in two runs and had a double in the victory, while Jillian Crowningshield and Emily Eastman scored three times each.
Lauren Ross picked up the victory in the circle, striking out seven in 3⅔ innings while allowing just one hit and no runs.
Turners 13, Mohawk Trail 3 — Jade Tyler and Madi Liimatainen split time in the circle for the Thunder, Tyler retiring 11 batters and Liimatainen eight as Turners came away with a 13-3 Franklin County League victory in Buckland on Tuesday.
“Our team showed up and made some great defensive plays,” Warriors coach Sherri Lannon said. “I was proud of their effort today.”
Turners put four runs on the board in the first and tallied another four in the fourth inning to take control of the game.
Tyler and Liimatainen both hit triples in the win while Taryn Thayer drilled a two-run home run and added a triple.
Mya Lesieur struck out three for Mohawk Trail and added a pair of hits on the offensive end. Sophie Guy added a double in the loss.
Pioneer 15, Mahar 1 — Sofia Holden struck out seven in five innings, and visiting Pioneer captured a 15-1 Franklin County League victory over Mahar Tuesday in Orange.
Pioneer scored three runs in each of the first three innings before pushing six across in the fourth. Mahar scored its run in the fifth inning, when Mackinley Drew got on base and came around to score a run.
“As long as I see improvement every day, that’s all I can ask for right now,” said Mahar coach Christina Kegans.
Tayla Sadlowski and Charlotte Kahler went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for the Panthers, with Hayley Pelletier hitting safely twice. Hailey Haughey, Holden, Kelly Baird and Avery Johnson each had a hit in the win.
Westfield Tech 10, Franklin Tech 9 — A valiant comeback by the Eagles forced extra innings but a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth gave the Tigers a 10-9 lead. Franklin Tech couldn’t produce a run in extras, leading to a 10-9 Westfield Tech Tri-County North victory in Turners on Tuesday.
“I’m proud of the way we battled,” Eagles coach Dan Prasol said. “Westfield Tech is a very good team who played well.”
Leading 4-3, the Tigers put up four runs in the fourth to hold an 8-3 advantage. Franklin Tech stormed back with a run in the fifth before Westfield Tech tallied a run in the top of the sixth to go up 9-4. The Eagles then scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh to tie the game.
Cayden Lehtomaki hit an RBI double in the loss, with Jake Whitney smacking a big double in the sixth. Alex Sulda had an RBI single, Joe Boyden doubled and Gavin Rubio hit safely three times for Franklin Tech.
