GREENFIELD — For the first time in its 109-year history, the Greenfield Moose Lodge at 20 School St. hosted the Massachusetts/Rhode Island Moose Association’s annual President’s Dinner, which routinely honors the current association president — in this case, Greenfield lodge member Isaac Mass.

“We have searched the records and it is the first time Greenfield has ever had a member serve as president of the state association,” Greenfield administrator John Andrews said in a Moose Lodge press release.

The dinner was hosted earlier this month by Greenfield Moose Lodge President Christopher Boutwell, a resident of Turners Falls.

“It was great to see friends from all over the commonwealth,” Boutwell said in the release. “It has been a long time coming, and we are grateful to be able to safely host events like this again.”

In addition to the tables reserved for members of the local lodge, over half of the crowd consisted of representatives from lodges across the state. Ten individual past presidents of the association were on hand to honor Mass.

In his term, Mass worked with many lodges from Yarmouth to Westfield, according to the release. His term also saw the implementation of OneMoose, with men and women joining together as a single organization, something Mass has long encouraged. Since joining the Greenfield Moose Lodge in 2003, Mass has served at trustee, prelate, treasurer, junior governor, governor and junior past governor.

After the dinner, Heart of the Community Chair Cindy Mavroules of Salem helped Mass present an oversized check for $4,350 to the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. According to the release, Cindy Lacoste, who serves on the Soldiers’ Home board of trustees alongside Mass, accepted the check on behalf of the facility.

In 2012, Mass joined the Moose Legion, which is dedicated to higher service, the release explains. From 2017 to 2018, he served as president of Minute Man Moose Legion 28, and was later bestowed the Medal of Honor by the Moose Legion for his role in sponsoring members to a greater degree of service. Additionally, in 2016 at the International Convention in St. Louis, Mass received the Fellowship Degree of Honor bestowed to those who have given exemplary service to the order.
