WENDELL — Though a first alarm was struck in response to a chimney fire at a home on Lockes Village Road Thursday afternoon, no damage resulted.
According to Fire Chief Joe Cuneo, firefighters responded at around 12:40 p.m. to a report of visible smoke and a possible fire in the roof at 274 Lockes Village Road.
Once on scene, however, Cuneo said firefighters determined the fire was contained within the chimney. The visible smoke “made it look worse than it was,” he said.
Aside from a minor crack in the chimney, there was no further damage to the home and no injuries were reported.
“The chimney itself has to be inspected before it can be used again,” Cuneo said.
Fire departments from New Salem, Shutesbury, Montague Center, Erving and Turners Falls assisted, as well as an ambulance from Athol, and National Grid.
