Offense was at a premium Saturday night, as visiting East Longmeadow scored the only two runs in the game en route to a 2-0 victory over Greenfield in a winner’s bracket Western Mass. Summer Baseball League Senior Division playoff game at Vets Field.

Second-seeded Greenfield dropped into the elimination bracket, and it will play a home game tonight against Northampton (7 p.m.) with both teams’ seasons on the line.

The winner will meet the winner of another elimination game being played tonight between Wilbraham Green and West Springfield. The winners would meet Wednesday night.

The lone teams without a loss in the tournament are now East Longmeadow, seeded third, and No. 5 Easthampton. They’ll meet tonight. Ludlow and Wilbraham Black were eliminated over the weekend.

Greenfield Juniors thump Belchertown

The bats came alive as Greenfield pounded out 10 hits in a elimination-game victory over Belchertown Orange, 12-3, in Junior Division playoff action Friday night.

Gavin Rubio led the charge with two hits, including a bases-clearing double in the first inning to get Greenfield off and running. David Carey was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while MJ Paulin had a perfect 3-for-3 night with three runs scored. Also aiding the cause offensively were Jake Whitney (hit, two RBIs), Nick Bresciano (double, RBI) and Brody Baird (hit, RBI).

Baird pitched well, striking out three in four innings before TJ Thibeault came on and struck out three in three innings of fine relief work. 

“We got out to a big lead and kind of cruised in from there,” Greenfield skipper Tom Bresciano said. “We finally started to get the hits in key situations, and it showed in the final score.”

Greenfield advanced to play Easthampton in a game that was scheduled to finish after deadline on Sunday night.

Frontier Mantle rolls

Ben Zaranek struck out seven batters to earn the win on the mound, and Dylan Martin had two hits and two RBIs as Frontier Alber Hearing Services captured a 12-2 win over Hatfield in Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Mickey Mantle action Friday night.

Tyler Baranowski singled and drove in three runs in the victory, while Jake Dodge also had a hit and three RBIs. Maxwell Edwards (hit), Tynan Creagh (hit, two RBIs), Kyle Barnes (hit, two RBIs) and Ben Martino (hit) all had big nights.

Greenfield Koufax stays unbeaten

Greenfield Gilmore & Farrell Insurance came from behind, staying unbeaten with an 8-7 win over Brattleboro in a Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Sandy Koufax contest Friday night at Vets Field.

Jackson Campbell got the win on the mound, tossing 2 2/3 innings of relief, as Greenfield improved to 12-0 on the year. Devin Dubie was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh.

Jake Petrin struck out nine batters in 4 1/3 innings. Hugh Cyhowski was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two intentional walks, while Dubie had a hit and an RBI. Michael Pierce (double, two runs), Petrin (hit, run) and Campbell (hit, run) all contributed offensively in the tight victory.

In action Thursday, Greenfield rolled past Amherst, 10-0, as Cyhowski and Ethan Quinn combined to strike out nine in the two-hit shutout.

Jackson Petrin was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Pierce had two hits and an RBI, while Dubie and Jake Petrin had two hits apiece. Cyhowski smacked a two-run single, Quinn had a two-run double, and Campbell had a hit and scored three runs. Bryce Avery and Jacob Brook combined for five walks and four runs scored.

Frontier Koufax bests Northampton

Behind two hits apiece from Davey Mazur, Gabe Solodky and Sam Whitney, Frontier scored a 17-3 win over Northampton in Sandy Koufax play on Friday.

Mazur, Whitney and Tyler Cusson had two RBIs apiece, while Owen Babb and Hugh Hart each had a hit and an RBI. Solodky scored three runs while Grayson Loos drove in a run and scored one. Aidan Heffernan worked three walks.

Loos struck out four in two innings of work before Dylan Camp and Kyle Begos combined for three strikeouts over three innings of work.

Golf

Edge Hill Two-Ball

Mark and Betty Graves shot 75, earning low gross honors at Edge Hill Golf Course’s Two-Ball on Saturday.

Phil and Joanne Sherburne (56) posted the low net of the day. Deb Vandale was closest to the pin on No. 10 (3 feet, 6 inches) and Mark Graves was closest at No. 16 (6-0). Vandale had the longest drive on the women’s side, and Graves had the men’s longest drive.

Wysocket scores hole-in-one

Pat Wysocket capped the weekend in fine fashion on Sunday.

Using an 8-iron from 152 yards out on the 16th hole at Edge Hill Golf Course, Wysocket scored a hole-in-one. The feat was witnessed by Tom Zuzgo, Gason Russell and Peter Bemnen.

Northfield Two-Ball

The teams of Joe Wilson/Mike Mertes and Chris Cloutier/Tim McKenna tied for low gross with rounds of 66 at Northfield Golf Club’s Two-Ball on Saturday.

Mike Zaborowski and Steve Ethier were third with a 67, followed by Carter Fasick and Jon Fasick in fourth place (68).

Net winners were Mike Mazur and Gary Hyman with a 60.

Closest to the pin winners were: Garrett Hasanbasic (No. 6, 11-10), Scott Powers (No. 7, 5-6), Chris Cloutier (No. 15, 7-10) and Carter Fasick (No. 16, 5-6). Longest drive was won by Tyler Lyne on both No. 9 (318 yards) and No. 18 (324).

CFC Member-Guest

The quartet of Dave Donoghue, Andy Lesenski, Jeremiah Bayer and Mark Waskiewicz teamed for a winning score of 11-under-par at Crumpin-Fox Club’s Member-Guest on Saturday.

Next up at 9-under were Shane Powell, Marcello Hart, Mike Hart and Matt Tommila, while the quartet of Brett Barnes, Frank Brown, Jamie Crocker and Justin Dion won a tiebreaker for third place at 8-under.

In mixed play, Erik Barnes, Peg Barnes, Kevin Ryan and Kristen Munford were first at 5-over.

Closest to the pin winners were Ryan Sullivan (5-11) and Lisa Sullivan (2-0). Matt Tommila won the men’s longest drive and Barb Harris won the women’s longest drive.

CCG Senior Club Championship

Steve Jones bested Terry Blanchard in a playoff, capturing the title at the Country Club of Greenfield’s Men’s Senior Club Championship over the weekend.

Both golfers shot two-round totals of 145. Bob Lively was the net winner at 139.

In the Jim Furyk Flight, Dave Kennedy’s 146 was tops, ahead of runner-up Mike Archer (149). Dan Young was the net winner (140). Blanchard won the Tom Watson Flight gross title (145) and Pat Grogan was the net winner (141). In the Jack Nicklaus Flight, John Varner was the gross winner (146) and Matt Pitoniak (141) took net honors.

Terry Boyce won the Women’s Senior Club title with a two-round total of 157. Elaine Goodhind was the net winner (143). Elise Rice won the Juli Inkster Flight (174) and Lynn Wiles was the net winner (148). In the Pat  Bradley Flight, Diane Carme was the gross winner (158) and Teresa Varner had the low net (146).
