I loved reading Lisa Diane Stowe’s memories of dances and theatre in Heath, and of her beloved and boisterous father. A town is a feeling and what people remember; it is what we do together, and how we treat one another.
Heath is a town of farmers and nurses, photographers, lawyers, philosophers, teachers, musicians and business people, yoga teachers and sawyers and scientists. We are a town of volunteers devoted to the common good. I believe we can restore this collective spirit.
We have funding to make our historic buildings more efficient and more affordable. Heath’s $129,000 Green Communities grant was awarded in 2017; the grant commits Heath to a 20% reduction in energy in five years.
The pace of improvement has been slow, which means our funds are still largely unspent. So let’s get busy.
Renovating our historic buildings is our most environmentally and fiscally responsible option, and this is precisely what the grant is for. Let’s insulate and update, freshen up and celebrate.
Community Hall is our emergency shelter; we have a duty to our most vulnerable citizens to make sure it is adequately equipped. We have a duty to provide for our seniors. The building is also an excellent venue for concerts, dining with history, birthday parties, craft fairs, meetings, memorials, theatre. The acoustics are pleasing and the vibe is warm and welcoming. Let’s do the work that needs to be done and revive the events and memories that have manifested in our Community Hall since the 1800s.
Imagine a monthly series of concerts, dances, film, readings, theatre; imagine a joyous revival in the heart of our sweet town.
