SOUTH DEERFIELD — Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA) is accepting applications through June 15 for a program that provides low-income seniors with access to fresh, local produce.

The program, called Senior FarmShare, links 11 local farms with 16 distribution sites across the Pioneer Valley, including senior centers and councils on aging, to provide participating seniors with 10 weeks of local produce at the height of the growing season, beginning in the third week of July, according to a CISA press release.

Seniors receive $125 worth of produce, and they pay a cost share of $10, the release states. This year, several sites will allow participants to pay for their cost share with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Funding for the program is provided by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and individual contributions.

Seniors ages 60 and up are eligible if they receive benefits through SNAP, Medicaid, Social Security, Aid to Families with Dependent Children, welfare or veterans’ aid; participate in the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts’ Brown Bag: Food for Elders program; live alone and have an income of less than $24,980; or have a total household income below $33,820.

According to the release, Senior FarmShare, which is now entering its 17th year, not only provides fresh food to 423 low-income seniors from Shelburne to Springfield, but it also supports Western Massachusetts farms and bridges gaps between farmers and community members.

The distribution sites are located in Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Worcester counties. The Franklin County and North Quabbin sites, and applicable contact information, are as follows:
