WARWICK — Brian Snell is the newest member of the Selectboard, following the May 18 town elections. Snell joins sitting members Todd Dexter and Lawrence “Doc” Pruyne.
At Snell’s first meeting Tuesday, members voted for him to serve as the new Selectboard clerk. Meanwhile, Dexter, the previous clerk, will serve as vice chair, and Pruyne will serve as chair for another year.
Snell ran for the Selectboard seat unopposed, and joins following the retirement of Jim Erviti, who was a member for four years, but chose not to run for re-election.
NORTHFIELD — The Dickinson Memorial Library is now open for curbside pickup of materials.
According to a library newsletter, patrons will receive a call with a pick-up time when their books and materials are ready. Pick-up times will be scheduled 15 minutes apart. Hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.
Patrons can email dmemlib@gmail.com with a list of books, movies, audiobooks and magazines they would like to borrow, or call 413-498-2455 with titles or to ask for suggestions, the newsletter states. Hours may change, and more information on curbside pickup operations can be found at northfieldpubliclibrary.org.
The library is working with the Northfield Board of Health to make sure that, when it opens, it will be in a way to keep patrons and employees safe and healthy, the newsletter states. Massachusetts libraries have been included in Gov. Charlie Baker’s phased reopening plan, with curbside pickup allowed in Phase 1 and browsing inside with limitations allowed in Phase 2.
LEYDEN — The Selectboard recently approved an installation policy for the upcoming buildout of its town broadband service.
According to Selectboard Chair Jeff Neipp, the installation policy will offer all residents a hookup to the broadband network, from the street to their homes, at no cost.
There is a sign-up deadline of Aug. 28. Signing up simply provides fiber connection from the curb to the outside of a property, without any commitment to subscribe to any broadband service.
The 35-mile high-speed internet network is set to be finished by late August. The network design was considered finalized as of Dec. 31, 2019. Any subsequent new residences not included in that December design will be responsible for their own installation charges.
More information regarding how to sign up, the types of services offered and the costs will be posted to the Leyden town website.
