Freedom Credit Union announces $55K donation

SPRINGFIELD — Freedom Credit Union, serving members in the four counties of Western Massachusetts, has announced a donation of $55,000, to be dispersed among several community organizations that are at the front lines of the local fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The coronavirus crisis has required that the entire community come together in response,” said Freedom Credit Union President and CEO Glenn Welch. “At Freedom, we wanted to honor those organizations that are at the center of the community response and contribute to the resources they need to help others during the pandemic.”

The following organizations will receive a portion of the $55,000: Baystate Health Foundation; Mercy Medical Center; Cooley Dickinson Health Care; Food Bank of Western Massachusetts; Hampshire Hospitality Group, whose Hampshire County Heroes feed first responders in Hampshire County; and Feed the Fight, an initiative of Peter Pan Bus Lines and area restaurants to feed health care workers and first responders in the community.

In addition to this donation, Welch said Freedom Credit Union has offered resources to its individual members intended to provide financial assistance or relief during the crisis, including their online banking services and their new Freedom Relief Loan. This loan provides up to $10,000 to members dealing with consequences of the pandemic, including layoffs, furloughs or bills.

Similarly, Freedom Credit Union’s Skip-A-Pay program allows members with a consumer loan — auto, mortgage, home equity, home improvement — to defer payments up to 90 days. According to a Freedom Credit Union press release, members should contact their local branch for details. The credit union can also work with member businesses needing financial relief on their specific circumstances.

AAA offers remote documentation reviews for members

SPRINGFIELD — Although AAA offices are closed, Registry of Motor Vehicles-trained AAA associates are still able to assist AAA members remotely with their document reviews.

According to a AAA Pioneer Valley press release, members preparing themselves to conduct a license renewal, Real ID license application or other registry transaction can request an appointment with a AAA associate to have their documents reviewed. Appointments can be made online at AAA.com/rmv.

To qualify for a free, online document review, you must be a AAA member, have internet access, a valid email address and a computer or smartphone with a camera and audio capabilities. According to the release, once your request for an appointment is received, a AAA associate will email you with a link to access the meeting at your appointment time, as well as some preparedness tips.

Participants should collect the materials needed for their registry transaction to present them to the associate during their virtual appointment.

“We at AAA understand that many of our members are unable to successfully complete their registry transactions because they do not have all the documentation required, or what they believe to be correct documentation is not acceptable by the Registry of Motor Vehicles,” said Sandra Marsian, vice president of Membership, Travel & Marketing with AAA Pioneer Valley. “We hope to use technology to safely and conveniently assist our customers with registry documentation reviews so they may feel confident that they are properly prepared to successfully complete their RMV transaction as our services reopen.”

For more information or to reserve an appointment for a registry transaction documentation review, visit AAA.com/RMV or call 413-785-1381.
