NEW SALEM — There were no reported cases of COVID-19 in town as of Tuesday, and the Board of Health chair said morale is good despite the restrictions enacted to help curb the spread of the virus.

Jenny Potee, who is also the town’s public health nurse, credits the lack of cases with residents’ adherence to staying at home and maintaining the recommended 6 feet of distance between themselves and a stranger.

“I guess we’re doing a good job,” she said Wednesday morning.

Potee mentioned some people in the town of just fewer than 1,000 residents have volunteered as personal shoppers for anyone who does not want to venture to a store in these unprecedented times. Those interested in taking advantage of this program should contact the Board of Health at nsboardofhealth@gmail.com or 978-544-9673. Potee said messages left on the office’s voicemail are checked daily.
