GREENFIELD — As of Sunday, the city is reporting 61 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Greenfield, and of the 19 people who died recently and were tested, 14 were positive.
Mayor Roxann Wedegartner’s Chief of Staff Danielle Letourneau said it is difficult for the city to keep up with numbers because they change hourly sometimes, so by the time they are reported, they aren’t accurate, but they plan to report numbers every day anyway. She said the inaccuracy is caused sometimes by lag, but also because it is believed that there may be some people who have symptoms but aren’t sick enough to be tested and some may be asymptomatic.
Letourneau said besides tracking cases and collecting data, the city is responding to requests for help in finding places for health care workers who want to quarantine away from their families.
City officials working out of the Emergency Operations Center in the John Zon Community Center continue to distribute masks, gloves and other personal protective equipment to medical facilities and professionals, but has also provided some to essential businesses, including supermarkets, so that their employees can stay safe while at work, Letourneau said.
“We’ve also got liaisons working with others in the community, including nonprofits who are helping those at risk,” she said.
Letourneau said she and all city officials understand how people are feeling.
“I’m feeling very impatient right now,” she said. “I know others are, as well. This is a trying time with a lot of unknowns. We’ll all get through this together.”
