GREENFIELD — Local teens can say yes to the dress during the sixth annual Dress Drive on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greenfield High School.

According to Angela Mass, advisor of Greenfield High School’s Student Council, the event was started to help teens who would otherwise not attend prom because of expenses such as buying a dress or renting a suit.

“Claire Abelson started this six years ago because she overheard a few upperclassmen say they couldn’t afford to go to prom, and she didn’t want them to miss out on that opportunity,” Mass explained. “Since it was established, it’s grown.”

This year, Mass said thanks to donations from local businesses, she has been “inundated” with dresses, but could still use other donations.

“We could use some formal shoes for men,” she said. “We have people who wear a dress and hand it down to someone else, or use a pair of shoes once, but with men’s shoes, they wear them until they throw them away.”

According to Mass, there will be a variety of styles, colors and sizes available, as well as accessories. She said the inventory grew by about 50 dresses through donations from surrounding schools, families and local businesses. There will also be a small selection of male formal attire.

Mass said dress donations are accepted year-round at the Greenfield Garden Cinemas. For more information, contact Mass at 413-522-0316.
