NORTHFIELD — The Pioneer Valley Regional School District School Committee agreed to have Director of Finance Tanya Gaylord continue to work 10 hours per week through the end of her contract during its meeting on Thursday.
Gaylord submitted her letter of resignation on Jan. 28, effective Feb. 21, but offered to work 10 hours per week through June 30, when her contract expires.
Now that Gaylord is finished with the bulk of her budget season responsibilities, she will review district policies and procedures and conduct other essential work around managing the budget.
Gaylord, who was originally hired as treasurer in December 2017 and then became director of finance in July 2018, moved to Florida last summer, after her husband was asked to relocate for work, she said. Gaylord has been working remotely since then and flying back to the area on occasion to attend School Committee meetings and give certain presentations in person.
“I’m not ready to walk away, but it’s a tough predicament,” Gaylord said of her employment. “I need to take an opportunity offered in Florida. Timing is everything.”
Selectboard recommends DLTA projects
WARWICK — The Selectboard and Town Coordinator David Young have submitted their top choices for District Local Technical Assistance (DLTA) projects through the Franklin Regional Council of Governments.
FRCOG will use money from the state to allocate their staff to various projects for their member towns.
Among Warwick’s top picks is technical assistance to assess, clean up and/or redevelop a brownfield site at 355 Wendell Road on Moore’s Pond, a property that was seized by the town following final judgment of foreclosure. Young said the property is insured, and Warwick now has site control to do some environmental testing.
Other top choices for DLTA projects include exploring feasibility or continuing work to establish municipal financial services, or exploring the feasibility of establishing ambulance or EMT services.
WARWICK — The Selectboard appointed Jill Bancroft as a new police officer on Monday, under the recommendation of Police Chief David Shoemaker.
Shoemaker said Bancroft is currently employed as a part-time offer in Leverett, a position she will retain. Bancroft is current on all required certifications and is continuing her education hours.
WARWICK — Public comment on a draft of the 2020 Open Space and Recreation Plan is sought. Comments should be submitted to Franklin Regional Council of Governments’ Senior Planner Alyssa Larose at alarose@frcog.org by March 2.
