The Turners Falls High School cheerleading team placed first in the Division 4 field at the 57th Annual Chicopee High School Cheerleading Invitational on Sunday.

The squad had 2 minutes and 30 seconds to perform their routine, impressing the four judges in attendance. Teams involved in the competition had only one opportunity to perform.

The Thunder performed a routine with a mix of dancing, jumping, gymnastics and voice. Turners Falls performed to a mix of artists ranging from Ariana Grande to Cyndi Lauper.

A nearly flawless routine helped the Thunder take home the hardware, according to coach Sarah Underwood.

“We were able to complete the routine without falling or noticeable mistakes,” Underwood said. “Everybody remembered their spots and their jobs. It went exactly as planned.”

Underwood credited co-coach Lauryn Stafford and parents for the accomplishments of the squad.

“Our success came from the support of her (Stafford) and the support of our athletes’  families,” Underwood said.
