GREENFIELD — Bail was set at $1,000 for a Bernardston man arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop on Conway Street in Greenfield earlier this week.
Michael P. Atherton, 49, of 114 Northfield Road, was stopped by Greenfield Police Officer Michael McDowell near Hayes Avenue for a civil motor vehicle violation at 3:44 p.m on Monday, according to a post on the Greenfield Police Department’s Facebook page.
Atherton was taken into custody following an investigation and search of the vehicle he was driving. He was arraigned in Greenfield District Court on Tuesday, the post states. He faces charges of distribution of a Class B substance, trafficking in cocaine (36 grams or more), conspiracy to violate drug law, three counts of possession of a Class B substance, and two counts of possession of a Class C substance.
The Greenfield Police Department thanked Capt. Scott Waldron and K9 Drago of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office via Facebook for responding to the scene to assist with the roadside investigation.
