To the members of the US Congress who have enabled the egomaniac who occupies the White House, we will hold you to account:
for taking children from their mother’s arms and putting them in cages;
for denying climate change and supporting those who profit from fossil fuel consumption;
for blocking efforts to stop gun violence in our neighborhoods;
for taking meager protections away from the poor while subsidizing the rich;
for betraying allies and allying with despots;
for telling people who have been left behind that it is the other – the liberals, the blacks, the browns, the educated, the gays, the transsexuals, the Muslims – who are responsible for taking away their security;
for lying, attacking our freedoms, undermining our institutions, and dividing us so badly we hardly recognize ourselves.
We will shine a light on what you have done. We will create a better, fairer, kinder, sustainable, informed, educated world and we will hold you to account.
