WARWICK — After discovering him hiding in a detached garage, police arrested a Fitchburg man Thursday night on charges of strangulation, assault and battery, and two outstanding warrants.
Scott Wilcox, 50, was arraigned Friday in Orange District Court. He is being held without bail.
According to a post on the Warwick Police Department’s Facebook page, officers responded to a Warwick home for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, they located an injured person whom Wilcox had allegedly assaulted. Wilcox had fled on foot before officers arrived.
“A K9 unit was deployed and tracked, but was unable to locate the suspect,” the post reads.
Later, Police Sgt. John Stewart and Police Chief David Shoemaker were checking buildings at an adjacent property.
“(Wilcox) was located inside a detached garage and taken into custody,” according to the post. Wilcox had started a fire inside the garage in an effort to keep warm, and the Warwick Fire Department was called to extinguish it.
The Northfield Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assisted in the arrest effort.
