Registration for the annual Sawmill River 10K has begun. The race is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 1 in Montague Center beginning at 10 a.m. near the Village Common on Main Street.
Race day registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Montague Common Hall and online registration is available at RunReg.com or www.montague.net. Divisions of the race include Youth (17 and under), Open (18-39), Master (40-49), Senior (50-59) and Senior+ (60 and up). Entry fee is $30 by Dec. 30 and $35 anytime after.
Hot and cold refreshments are provided. The event benefits MPRD’s Sponsor-A-Child Scholarship Program.
The race is a USA Track and Field sanctioned event.

Four Rivers Charter Public School is seeking a middle school basketball coach beginning Dec. 2, ending Feb. 14. They are looking for a positive, team-oriented coach who is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons for practices and games. Girls Soccer
Alexis Dimitrou scored an unassisted goal for Four Rivers, but the Otters fell to Putney School, 2-1, in the River Valley Athletic League semifinals on Thursday.
Tula Campman scored both goals for Putney.
Sage Fuller had a strong game in goal for Four Rivers.
Cross Country
Academy of Charlemont eighth-grader Paloma Hsiao-Shelton narrowly out-ran Stoneleigh Burnham’s Sarah Amzil in the River Valley Athletic League’s cross country championship in at the Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke on Tuesday, finishing with a time of 23:25 on the 5k course to take first on the girls side, one second ahead of Amzil who settled for second.
Stoneleigh Burnham’s Lida Lyubimova finished third with a 23:36 to help lead the Owls to a first place finish.
On the boys side, Charlemont’s Will Draxler cruised to a victory with an 18:33 finish.
F.C. Babe Ruth
The Franklin County Babe Ruth League is hosting a meeting Monday, Nov. 4 on the main floor conference room at St. Kazimierz Society in Turners Falls.
Topics include the ending weekend of the fall season, nomination and election of officers, invitation that the league received to host the Babe Ruth State Tournament finals, winterizing the field and any other topics that come up. Parents of current and future players are encouraged to attend.

Turners Suburban
Tryouts for the upcoming Turners Falls Suburban League basketball season are scheduled for this weekend, Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 2-3).
Tryouts will be held at Turners Falls High School, with fifth- and sixth-graders going from noon-2 p.m. both days. Players in seventh and eighth grade will run from 2-4 p.m. both days.

Pioneer Suburban Basketball is holding tryouts on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m.-noon at Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield.

FCTS trivia night
A baseball trivia night to benefit the Franklin Tech baseball program will be held on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Montague Elks (1 Elks Ave., Turners Falls).
There will be cash and bar prizes for first to last place. Up to eight people are allowed on a team at $10 per person as the entry fee. There will be five rounds of wits and will in a variety of categories, as well as a 50/50 raffle and cash bar. Players are welcomed to bring their own snacks.
