SOUTH DEERFIELD — Televisions and appliances aren’t meant to be placed in those rectangular bins alongside cardboard boxes and glass jars. But they can still be recycled — in a different way.
With this in mind, Holy Family Roman Catholic Church has agreed to host an electronics recycling day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The event will be held in the church parking lot at 29 Sugarloaf St., rain or shine. All are welcome.
Acceptable items include: televisions, monitors, desktop computers, laptops, DVD players, grills, microwave ovens, refrigerators, printers, exercise equipment, lawnmowers and snowblowers (with gasoline removed), washing machines, dryers and dehumidifiers. TVs cost $15 to $35 to recycle, air conditioners cost $15 and other appliances are $10 to $20. Keyboards, car batteries, cellphones and circuit boards are free to recycle, according to Suzanne Cycz, office manager at Holy Family.
Cycz said the system works similarly to a bulky waste station. She said Green Day Recycling is overseeing the event.
Cash or checks are accepted. Anyone with questions can send an email to greendayrecyclingma@gmail.com.
