I encourage all Greenfield voters to join me at the polls on Nov. 5 and to cast a “yes” vote on Question 2 to make Greenfield a safe city. The safe city ordinance simply codifies Greenfield’s current practices into law: it prohibits police and other city officials from inquiring about someone’s immigration status, keeps them from acting as immigration officers, and prevents them from voluntarily providing information to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. These are common sense practices that allow every resident to call the police in an emergency or register a child for school without fearing that the interaction will lead to a deportation and a fragmented family. Our community is safer, stronger, and more resilient with this ordinance in place.
