Three cultural councils in West County — Charlemont-Hawley and Shelburne — are seeking funding proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities and science programs in 2020.

The Charlemont-Hawley Cultural Council has approximately $10,000 to distribute to groups and individuals planning programs in its two member towns. According to Chair Tinky Weisblat, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in either town — including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, performances in or out of schools, workshops, books and lectures.

It gives priority to events taking place in, or created by people living in, its two-town district.

The deadline for applications this year is Tuesday, Oct. 15. Applications may be filled out online, although the Charlemont-Hawley Council will continue to accept paper applications by mail.

For more information, application forms, and a full list of the local council’s priorities, call Weisblat at 413-339-4747 or visit http://mass-culture.org/Charlemont-Hawley.

Applications to the Shelburne Cultural Council are also due Tuesday.

Organizations, schools and individuals can apply online at www.mass-culture.org for grants that support cultural activities and events for Shelburne residents. The state announced that Shelburne will receive $4,800 for 2020 funding.

With broad community appeal in and around Shelburne and Shelburne Falls the key priority, the Shelburne Council seeks to fund cultural, artistic and educational projects that have original and compelling concepts; the council also look for collaboration. Each application must include a realistically detailed budget and a strong marketing strategy. Statements of support from a hosting organization and/or venue must accompany each application.

To be considered for either of the councils, applications must meet Massachusetts Cultural Council requirements available at www.mass-culture.org.
