Town Hall receives paint job, kitchen renovation

LEYDEN — The Selectboard is pleased with the exterior painting of Town Hall by the Sheriff’s Office Community Service Program. According to board members, the building looks brighter and cleaner, and the town saved money by using the program.

The kitchen was also renovated with new stainless steel sinks, and plumbing codes were followed to bring the kitchen up to current Board of Health standards. The kitchen is now open to use.

Summer reading program wraps up

LEYDEN — Robertson Memorial Library’s summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories,” is coming to a close, and Librarian Karin Parks said that every child who participated read for at least 1,000 minutes, or nearly 17 hours. Parks said some days this summer saw more than 50 materials check out at a time.

September is library card sign-up month, Friday, Sept. 6 is National Read a Book Day and Sunday, Sept. 8 is International Literacy Day.

Volunteers sought for town positions

BERNARDSTON — The town is seeking one member for its Finance Committee. Contact Town Coordinator Lou Bordeaux for more details regarding the position.

Bernardston is also seeking two members for the new Regional School District Planning Committee.

Culvert repairs set for Holton Street

NORTHFIELD — Starting Sept. 9, the Northfield Highway Department will be working to replace the culvert on Holton Street. The road will be closed to through traffic and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.

Tuesday Trekkers to hike at The Devil’s Washbowl

WARWICK — The North Quabbin Trails Association’s “Tuesday Trekkers” group will meet at the Devil’s Washbowl” on Tuesday.

The group will meet at around 9:15 or 9:30 a.m. at the trail head on Gale Road.

Anyone wishing to participate in the hike should plan to meet the Trekkers, led by Bobby Curley, at the trail head. The hike will be followed by a visit to Lynrose Farm & Wellness Center, a tour of the farm and a light lunch.
