HEATH — A middle-aged Heath man was sent to Baystate Franklin Medical Center with minor injuries Tuesday night after his car struck a bridge and rolled over on Avery Brook Road near Burrington Road.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at about 6:50 p.m. by a neighbor, who heard the crash and called 911, Colrain Fire Chief Nick Anzuoni said.

The man was briefly entrapped in the vehicle, a Buick LaCrosse, before first responders removed a door to release him, Anzuoni said. At the time, the vehicle was standing on its roof, according to a post on the Colrain Firefighters’ Association’s Facebook page.

Two trucks were required to flip the car over and tow it away, Anzuoni said.

While the cause of the crash is unknown at this time, he said he did not believe speed was a factor.

Colrain Ambulance transported the man to Baystate Franklin. He said the man required a hospital visit because airbags were deployed in the vehicle.

Firefighters from Colrain and Heath fire departments, who were coincidentally training together up the road when the accident occurred, responded. Heath and Massachusetts State Police also assisted at the scene.
