The three-time defending WMass champion Greenfield High School field hockey team will hold a fundraising car wash today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Shell Station on the Mohawk Trail next to China Gourmet.

The money raised will go toward new equipment.

Golf

Jon Hunt Memorial

Jon Fasick and Jim Ruschioni took first in the Jon Hunt Memorial Two Ball tournament at the Country Club of Greenfield, shooting a gross 65. 

Dean Godek and Dean Vecchiarelli also shot a 65 gross, but had to settle for second. David Laravee and Ed Garbacik took third with a 66 after a match of cards. 

Chris Demers and Shaun Fleming had the top net score of 57, while Dennis Rabtor and John Stacy also shot a 57 but finished second. Jeffrey Blomstedt and Bill Conant followed in third after a match of cards with a net 60. 

Bruce White and Doug Riel tied with Carter Fasick and John Greene for the top senior gross, with each duo shooting a gross 66. 

The top senior net score went to Adam Lussier and Sam Lussier with a net 60, while George Hassenfratz and Jim Thomas tied with the duos of Pete Kuzmeskus and Michael Ruggeri and Tim Brandl and John Dempsey for second with a 61. 

Terry Blanchard and George Fleischner had the top super senior gross score of 67, with a tie for second between Paul Nunez and William Cotti and Thomas Bergeron and Richard Barber, who each shot a gross 70. 

Gordon Parker and Kerry Johnson tied with Marty Carter and Richard Krawiec for the best super senior net score, each finishing a net 61. 

Bowling

Shelburne Falls

Erich Price and Cherie Semanie stood atop the pack on Thursday.

Price was both the men’s high single (121) and high triple (314) winner at the Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley Thursday Night League, while Semanie took the women’s high single (115) and high triple (326).

Running

Race to End Child Abuse 5K

Calling all superheroes! Many children can’t run from abuse, we dare you to move, get involved, make an impact, and change your community for the better. The 3rd annual Race to End Child Abuse 5K Run/Walk sponsored by the Children’s Advocacy Center will be Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Franklin County Fairgrounds.

New this year, there will also be a free one-half mile race for kids. Registration and pre-registration pick up opens at 8 a.m. on race day, with the one-half mile race set for an 8:40 a.m. start. The 5K begins at 9 a.m.

Don Maynard Race 

The 25th Annual Don Maynard 5 Mile Road Race and 2.5 mile walk is set for Sept. 21, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Youth Soccer

Greenfield Rec

The Greenfield Recreation Department is offering youth soccer programs for Grades K-6 this fall.  The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 30. A $5 late fee will be assessed for all late registrations.

Pee wee soccer is for boys and girls grades K-2. This small field 3-vs-3 soccer program introduces passing, dribbling and shooting skills with weekly instruction and scrimmage, taking place Saturdays, Sep. 7 through Oct. 19 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Green River Swimming Area. Players must wear shin guards, sneakers or soccer shoes (no cleats). The fee is $30 for residents, $35 for non-residents.

Travel Soccer Jr. Division is for grades 3-4 and Sr. Division is for grades 5-6. Each division builds on passing, dribbling, and shooting skills. Practices will be held one night a week with games on Saturday.  The practice and game schedule will be announced at a later time.
