Standing along Montague Road at the Carlton Road entrance to the Wendell State Forest, forest protectors were accosted by a verbally abusive man whose main grudge was that he could no longer gain access to the state forest for hunting and fishing because of the newly installed locked gates.
How he came to believe it is the protectors’ fault that gates were placed at the entrances to the forest I cannot imagine. The fact is that the logger’s contract called for him to install those very heavy expensive locked gates. The state Department of Conservation and Recreation is responsible for denying the public the access we would all like to enjoy to the places of recreation in the Wendell State Forest.
